Dr. Gunter Receives Thomas A. Hatfield Lifetime Achievement Award
Congratulations to Dr. Susanne F. Gunter, Associate Professor of Art Education; Coordinator MEd Art Education & Converse Alternative Certification – Art Education (CACAE) programs. Dr. Gunter received the Thomas A. Hatfield Lifetime Achievement Award at the South Carolina Art Education Association (SCAEA) 100th Anniversary Conference in Greenville, SC.
This award is presented to an active member of SCAEA who demonstrates a life-long commitment to the teaching and advocating of art education.
Dr. Gunter has more than 40 years of experience. In 2015, she received the Higher Education Level Award from the South Carolina Art Education Association, and in 2019, she was awarded Converse University’s Kathryne Amelia Brown Award for Teaching Excellence.
As a practicing artist, Dr. Gunter exhibits locally and regionally. She has served on the boards of area organizations including the Children’s Advocacy Center of Spartanburg, Cherokee, and Union. Dr. Gunter currently serves as the institutional representative to the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). She was the recent past chair of the NASAD Ethics Committee, a visiting evaluator, and a presenter at the NASAD Annual Meeting.
The South Carolina Art Education Association is a chapter of the National Art Education Association. The association connects members to a worldwide network of like-minded artists, K-12 art educators and administrators, college and university professors, preservice students studying art education, researchers and scholars, museum educators, teaching artists, and more.
